Five Year Anniversary

Inner City Renovation  (ICR), launched in 2002, is a social enterprise managing both financial and social bottom lines. The ICR staff and Board are committed to:

  • quality full time employment to inner city low-income residents
  • better than average sector wages and benefits
  • training to its workers to gain skills and certification
  • high quality home and commercial renovation and construction
  • employee ownership once the business is stable and has completed two consecutive profitable years

Inner City Renovation has had a significant impact on both individuals and the larger community.  The staff of ICR has:

•  Completed more than 175 projects since start-up
•  Generated more than $6.5 million in earned revenue
•  Created, on average, more than 25 full time year round jobs
•  Paid out more than $2.5 million in wages and benefits to its employees
•  Rejuvenated buildings in the inner city
•  Contributed to the local economy by sourcing materials and services
•  Provided both formal and informal training to all of its employees

Significant projects completed over the past five years include:

  • Third floor of the Mountain Equipment Co-op Building on Portage Avenue for Manitoba Eco Network
  • Eagle Wing Early Education Centre at 49 Euclid Ave for Sistars
  • Office building at 80 Salter for SEED Winnipeg
  • Education Centre at 509 Selkirk Ave. for Urban Circle Training Centre
  • Social service centre at 591 Sherbrook Ave. for Neecheewam Project
  • Architectural offices, at 586 Main St. for Bridgman Collaborative
  • Credit Union branch (Rivergrove) on North Main St for  Assiniboinne Credit Union
  • Numerous residential projects in North End for NEHP
  • Several houses in Spence Neighbourhood for Housing Opportunity Partnership
